Computer (1-player) Chess Game Instructions

This is the Chess game where you match wits against the computer. Castling, En Passant and Pawn Promotion are all supported, but the rule "Game is drawn if a position repeats three times" is not implemented. The computer performs a two move look-ahead, but does not examine or check at the deepest level, which severely hinders its endgame play. In other words... it is possible to beat the computer!
  1. Decide on the "Pawn Promote" rule you wish to play by, and select it prior to commencing play.
  2. As usual, White plays first. The computer by default, will assume Black, thus deferring opening play to you. If you prefer the computer to play first, uncheck the Black box, then check the box for "Computer = White."
  3. For fully automatic play (demonstration mode), select the "Computer = White" box without first deselecting the box for Black. This can be useful for giving you an idea of the computer's play capability.
  4. Make a Chess move by clicking the start position of the piece you are moving, then clicking again on the destination square. There are visual cues for selected piece and illegal move.
  5. The Game Log (lower window) is updated in real-time. Play is recorded in standard Algebraic Notation. You may copy/paste the log for later study, for recreating an interrupted game, or for import into any number of freely available analysis tools.
